Advice for Team Medical Personnel
Team medical personnel should be aware of the responsibilities placed on them in FIH Tournament Regulations and the FIH Anti-Doping Policy.
In this context, the notes below outline the major issues concerning team medical personnel. They also provide useful guidelines for other, non-FIH, events.
Note that:
-
the team doctor/physical therapist/trainer should be informed about the medication, substances and/or supplements taken by the athlete;
-
a Therapeutic Use Exemption must be obtained for certain medications; some other medications require a Declaration of Use;
-
be aware that some supplements have precursors of prohibited substances but the ingredients are not listed on their labels;
-
the medical history of the athlete should be known together with peculiarities if any;
-
knowledge of the environment where the tournament will be taking place should be known; up to date information can be obtained on the country on websites or from consulates or embassies;
-
the latest information on travel medicine should be sought, for example about vaccinations, inoculations, water, climatic conditions;
