|Sydney 2000 - update|
Ron Riley, Hockey Competition Manager for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, was on hand in Utrecht for the World Cups. While there, he presented a progress report to the FIH Council.
FIH Executive Director, Hans Bertels, met in April with SOCOG representatives while in Australia for the meeting of ASOIF (Association of Summer Olympic International Federations). He reports that the co-operative agreement between the FIH and SOCOG is still to be signed, pending outcome of ongoing negotiations on a number of points - accreditation, accommodation, transportation and ticketing. Bertels also visited the hockey stadium in Homebush and describes it as "fantastic."
In March, Bertels, FIH Technical Manager Adrien Peters and FIH Communications Manager Mary Coyle attended the second meeting on the Olympic Results Information Services system, which was convened by the IOC and SOCOG. The meetings also included members of the media - Richard Hinds (Australia), Farooq Mazhar (Pakistan) and John van Vliet (Netherlands) - and are aimed at identifying information needs during the Olympic Games and the best way to meet those needs. More detail in the next issue of International Hockey News.
