New Jamaica Hockey Federation formed

?????The separate mens and womens hockey associations in Jamaica have recently been dissolved and a single ruling body for hockey in Jamaica has been established. The Jamaica Hockey Federation came into existence on the 31st of January 1998. The executive members of the newly-formed JHF are:

Mr. Stafford Shann, Mr. Kingsley Morris and Ms. Carol Sewell;
Mrs. Myrtle Weir;
Vice Presidents:
Mr. Vernon Saunders, Ms. Audry Gaynor;
Hon. Treasurer:
Mr. Carl Goudie;
Hon. Secretary:
Mr. Paul Gascoigne
Hon. Assistant Secretary:
Ms. Martha DeSouza.

The merger is in line with FIH policy to establish a single ruling body for mens and womens hockey throughout all FIH member countries by the year 2000. There remain seven member countries with separate ruling bodies for mens and womens hockey.

High honours for hockeys top administrators

?????Two of hockeys leading administrators have been honoured by the International Olympic Committee.

Hardial Singh of Kenya and Muneyoshi Ueda of Japan, both members of the FIH Executive Board, were recently awarded the Olympic Order by the IOC Executive Board. "The FIH family feels very honoured and very happy that its members have obtained such a highly esteemed distinction," remarked FIH President, Juan Angel Calzado.

FIH Vice-President and Council member, Peter Cohen of Australia was recently awarded the Order of Australia Medal for his services to hockey. He was nominated for the award by the Australian Hockey Association.
