5/18/01 -- Brussels, Belgium

The IOC Executive Board has today proposed Els Van Breda Vriesman, the new FIH President, for election as a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Els van Breda Vriesman’s candidature will be submitted to the 112th session, the assembly of all IOC members, in Moscow on 16 July 2001. Els has previously been a member of the IOC Evaluation Committee for the 2004 Olympic Games and is currently a member of that committee for the 2008 Olympics.

Els van Breda Vriesman commented, ‘’It is a great honour for me to be proposed. I am delighted, not only on a personal level, but also that I may further strengthen links on behalf of hockey with the IOC.’’
