Job Opportunity - Field Hockey Ontario Executive Director

Field Hockey Ontario is the Provincial Sport Organization responsible for the development and growth of field hockey in Ontario. Field Hockey has the distinction of being one of the largest team sports in the world, played by both men and women.

An exciting opportunity is available for a dynamic and innovative leader to become the driving force for putting in place creative initiatives that support the organization’s strategic direction. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will be responsible for effectively managing and administering the affairs of the organization in a manner that meets its goals and objectives.

Specific areas of responsibility include:

  • Liaising with representatives of the provincial government and its related agencies
  • Coordinating the preparation and submission of annual budget statements and grant applications to the ministry
  • Ensuring the proper maintenance and management of the organization’s finances and accounts
  • Maintaining membership information and ensuring the dissemination of appropriate and timely communication with the membership
  • Negotiating contracts with suppliers, potential sponsors, and others as may be required, within previously approved operational directives
  • Organizing and attending meetings as required by the organization’s by-laws and other meetings as required
  • Arranging travel and other plans to facilitate the participation of provincial teams in national or other events
  • Making facility bookings as may be required for high performance or development programs
  • Providing assistance with the organization of tournaments or other events
  • Representing the organization by promoting its interests with the media or other marketing initiatives
  • Implementing and maintaining efficient office management systems

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A university degree or equivalent experience in Business or Sports Management or a related field
  • At least two years’ experience in a project management or sports administration environment
  • As an asset, an understanding of the provincial and national sports systems and coaching structure as it relates to field hockey
  • Thorough knowledge of market research, event planning and media relations
  • Demonstrated leadership, analytical, planning and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, with a high level of comfort in public speaking and discussion facilitation
  • An enthusiastic and energetic personality as a team player with a strong customer service orientation
  • Competent business office computer and website skills

The position is based in Toronto, and requires a full-time commitment of 40 hours per week, with flexibility to travel and attend occasional weekend or weeknight events / meetings either provincially or nationally. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications, and will be competitive with relevant market levels.
