Korea and Kiwi's for gold, France and Japan for glory
22 Apr 2006 14:48

Korea and New Zealand booked their berths in the final of the BDO World Cup Qualifiers in Changzhou on Saturday with wins over Pakistan and England respectively in their delayed semi finals.

The heavy rain had cleared for the early morning matches on Saturday ensuring a full day’s schedule took place to catch up for Friday’s lost time.

Japan’s 2-1 win and New Zealand’s 3-1 triumph means the top two team’s who played in Pool B earlier in the week meet in the decider, while the top two sides from Pool A, England and Pakistan, meet in the playoff for third.

In other matches on Saturday China couldn’t please their home crowd with a win, losing to Egypt in golden goal extra time on pitch number two to ensure the wooden spoon tag won’t be leaving the country.

Malaysia beat Canada to seal ninth place while Belgium completed their consistent tournament with a 2-1 win over Ireland to finish seventh.

Sunday’s last day of play has three matches which include the playoff for third and the final, but there is only one match up that will secure true glory, the fifth place playoff between France and Japan. The winner will claim a berth at the 2006 BDO World Cup in Germany, while for the loser it will be a long four years to contemplate missed  opportunities and their missed chance at a World Cup appearance.
