The German men’s team was voted the Team of the Year in Germany. The Olympic gold medalist proved to be the best sporting team in 2008 in the country.

It was not for the first time that a German hockey team won this prestigious award. In 2004, the German women’s team was voted Team of the Year in their country, while the men also won the award in 1992.

In Netherlands, the women’s golden team from Beijing finished second in the Team of the Year contest, finishing just behind the water polo squad. The Dutch water polo team won also gold at the 2008 Olympic Games.
