One week after her selection in the Hockeyroos team for the Commonwealth Games Team, ACT midfielder Sarah Taylor has been forced to withdraw from the team with a stress fracture in her right foot.

Sarah and her brother Ben were to make hockey history by competing for their respective hockey teams at the same major tournament.

Taylor was replaced in the team by NSW forward Jo Banning, and Queensland midfielder Wendy Alcorn replaced Banning as a traveling reserve.

Hockeyroos coach David Bell is confident that Taylor will be fit for the Champions Trophy.

“It is particularly disappointing for her to be selected for her first major and then to be ruled out, but we are positive and optimistic that her rehabilitation will allow her to play at the Champions Trophy in August.

Jo has gone from the disappointment of not making the team initially, to being included and I’m sure she will make the most of her opportunity,” he said.

The Hockeyroos begin a training camp in Perth on Wednesday 10th July and depart Australia on Monday, 15th July, 2002.
