Hockey Australia announces two new sponsorship deals
30 Oct 2002 14:10

Hockey Australia is pleased to announce two new sponsorship partnerships. Crowne Plaza, through its Six Continents Hotels chain, has signed a two-year deal to be the official provider of accommodation for Hockey Australia. Also announced today is a deal with retail chain Just Hockey, which has signed a five-year sponsorship deal as the official equipment supplier of the new Hockey Australia development program, Take It On!

Crowne Plaza will provide accommodation at a discounted rate for both national teams, the Hockeyroos and the Kookaburras, and also visiting teams for international events in Australia.

Six Continents Hotels Director of Marketing for Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific, Michael Meade is looking forward to the formal relationship with Hockey Australia and the successful national teams.

“The Hockeyroos and Kookaburras have been staying at our hotels for years – especially at Crowne Plaza Perth and Crowne Plaza Parramatta. This agreement has seen the relationship escalate to a formal partnership, allowing us to increase our level of support for Hockey in Australia,” Mr Meade said.

Just Hockey will provide Take It On! participants, clubs and associations with access to significantly discounted equipment packs. Take it on! is designed to attract new members to the game of hockey, and establishes a co-ordinated approach to promotion and development across all levels of the game. The program will be launched in February 2003, and is an Australian Sports Commission approved development program targeting the grassroots level of the sport.

With nearly 60,000 newcomers expected to participate in the program over the next five years, this sponsorship deal creates a significant saving for Hockey Australia, a discount to be passed directly to program participants. Hockey Australia is seeking a naming rights sponsor for the Take It On! program.

Hockey Australia Sponsorship Manager Rebecca Sherwill is excited by the recent signings, and is optimistic about future sponsorship possibilities.

"This is an extremely exciting time for Hockey Australia, with a number of new sponsorships announced and more to follow. With the Women’s World Cup in Perth in November, the profile of hockey is set to soar again. It is great to see that sponsors are recognising the benefits of this in advance and jumping on board," Ms Sherwill said.
