Sotherton seeks Melbourne medal
02 Feb 2006 18:01

Kelly Sotherton has revealed her ambition to follow in the footsteps of former training colleague Denise Lewis at next month's Commonwealth Games.

Former Olympic champion Lewis first came to prominence at the Commonwealth Games in 1994 before going on to win gold in Sydney in 2000. Sotherton is already an Olympic bronze medallist but now has her sights set on picking up the first major title of her career in Melbourne.

"I am not expecting to pull out any amazing performances but, if I come back with the result I want, that is what is important," Sotherton said. "Going into a heptathlon as favourite makes a change. I have not yet felt any pressure. I imagine that could come but one thing I know is that I will not be complacent."
