The Global Youth Hockey Marathon 2004  in Afghanistan

The Global Youth Hockey Marathon has been celebrated in Afghanistan with warm participating of youth, old hockey players and other hockey lovers. The program was held in the Afghanistan National Olympic Committee stadium. We had many high level members of the Government. The mister for water and electricity, MR Ahmad Yousaf Nooristani was the chief guest. On the occasion the vice president of the Afghanistan National Olympic committee  and President of the Afghanistan Hockey Federation were also present.

The program started with a speech of chief guest Mr. Ahmad Yousaf Nooristani. He encourage the young to play hockey and said never be discourage.

The vice president of afghan NOC, Mr. Dushti said: we are proudly to say that the rebuilding of Afghanistan sports is continuing. We are thankful to all federations of the Afghanistan NOC, that they working hard. We will definitely help you.

The president of Afghanistan Hockey Federation, Mr. Rahmatullah Nooristani says that now we are in a position to be in touch with the International hockey community. The clear example is the FIH coach Mr. Zahid Ali visiting Kabul to train the Afghan coaches.

Than a match between the veterans and children was played. A lot of spectators were present at the ground to see the old players and the children. The Afghanistan Hockey Association  had hanged banners on the side, with messages written for the youth to come and play hockey and to support the game of hockey in Afghanistan.

60 outfits and 60 pairs of shoes were also distributed to young players. The children were very happy when they played the veteran Afghan players. Fresh juices and water was provided by the Afghanistan NOC.

There was a lot of media present, like the voice of America, the BBC routers and the Afghani media. They gave full coverage of this program. 

Finally the Afghanistan Hockey Association is thankful to the FIH for sending there coach to Afghanistan. With this FIH Hockey Marathon we hope the hockey will develop in Afghanistan.

The coach panel has also been established and will visit all part of the country to develop the hockey game in Afghanistan.
