Marathon in Canada - Collecting sticks for Peru
As with any physically large country in which hockey is desperately trying to grow, the Marathon Weekend proved to be difficult to organize in Canada. A large youth group plays hockey in the greater Toronto area, but the kids were given this weekend to rest, as it was a long weekend.
The desirable area of concentration then turned to Vancouver where hockey is played consistently. A large adult tournament was being held the weekend of the Marathon, and used sticks were collected by youth in the area. Fewer sticks than desired were collected, and as such, we will continue collecting sticks to send to Peru, to aid them in playing hockey in schools.
Though the marathon project was less successful in terms of the quantity of sticks collected, it was a great learning experience, and all those who participated had lots of fun.
