Uganda

The second edition of the East African Hockey Club championships in Tanga Tanzania was held from 5-11 September. The games involved six men's teams and five ladies teams with most of the players being youths.

An umpiring course was held during the event to boost on the level of play & the officials in East Africa.

Arusha Twigas of Tanzania were winners in the Men's category while Sliders of Kenya retained the ladies trophy. Tanzania is a country that has just started developing in Hockey & they need a lot of support and encourage to keep them going.

On the Development side of things in Uganda; we are waiting for the turf to be laid at our National Stadium. This will be a great boost to Hockey and it will create change in the standard of the game.

We are getting used to the equipment from people and players from Holland. This year we got an assortment of playing sticks, shoes, shinguards and uniforms. They have been given to players and teams that are doing great work for development.

The cost of equipment is high in Uganda and many players can’t afford to buy their own. A lot of emphasis has been put on youth, who I believe are the next generation to play and keep the game alive in Uganda.

Thanks to Kara Meijer from KNHB in Holland who has been a great help in providing us with all this hockey equipment, as well as Ronald Scheer who has transported the equipment free of charge.
