London, Madrid, Moscow, New York and Paris remain for 2012
At the time of writing the ‘cut’ has just been made to determine the five remaining Candidate Cities for the 2012 Olympic Games. From a total of nine applicant cities, London, Madrid, Moscow, New York and Paris have been chosen, based on their applications submitted at the beginning of the year.
The five Candidate Cities now have until 15 November 2004 to submit their Candidature File to the IOC. All the cities are expected to continue to consult extensively with the 28 summer Olympic sports federations and the FIH will play its role in helping each Candidate City to create the best possible Olympic hockey facilities and legacy for the future of the sport in each country.
The final decision on the host city for the Games of the XXX Olympiad will be made by the full IOC membership during the 117th IOC Session in Singapore in July 2005.
Fewer than three months remain in the final countdown to the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. The final tournament match schedules expected to be shortly after this issue of World Hockey Online reaches you. Ticket sales for all Olympic venues are already going well, including hockey at the Helleniko Olympic complex, on the coast to the south of the Athens. The match schedules, once published will provide further boost and, with the Olympic experience the pinnacle of both a hockey player and hockey watcher’s ‘career’, we hope for another excellent Olympic hockey turn-out.
Full details of the venue, ticket purchasing procedures and issue timetables, along with player galleries and screensavers for the Games are available from www.athens2004.com .
