FIH and Indian Hockey Confederation (IHC) will conduct a Special International Coaching Course in Chennai from Monday, 5 December, to Monday, 12 December, 2005.
The course will be held in conjunction with the Sahara Hockey Champions Trophy.
FIH Top Coaches, Tayyab Ikram, and Herman Kruis will be the course conductors and main presenters. Tayyab Ikram, FIH Coaching Manager, former National coach of Pakistan Men’s Team and former Head Coach of China. Herman Kruis leading coach from the Netherlands and has a record of winning National Championship in the Netherlands.
Besides main conductors other FIH Master Coaches will also make presentations, including:
· Barry Dancer – Gold medal-winning coach of the Australian men’s team at the 2004 Olympic Games
· Bernhard Peters – Gold medal-winning coach of German men’s team at the 2002 World Cup
· Roelant Oltmans – Gold medal-winning coach of the Netherlands men’s team at the 1996 Olympic Games and current Dutch coach
· Maurits Hendriks – Gold medal-winning coach of the Netherlands men’s team at the 200 Sydney Olympic Games and Spain men’s team the 2004 Samsung Hockey Champions Trophy
All conductors and presenters have impressive coaching experience in the international arena. Other leading coaches will also be invited to participate in forum discussions.
Candidates for participation in the FIH High Performance Coaching Course must be knowledgeable and experienced coaches in high performance coaching with good understanding of English.
The course will be held in accordance with the FIH Guidelines for the Organisation of Coaching Courses and the Certification of Coaches. The new version of the Guidelines mentioned above is available at the FIH web site under the coaching section and is also available from your Association.
Deserving participants can be recommended by the conductors after assessment of their performance and contribution during the course, for participation in a later FIH Final Coaching Seminar, where participants can further earn a nomination as FIH Coach or FIH Coach Grade l (Development or High Performance).
Participation
The maximum number of participants is 26. A small number of observers will also be accommodated.
Qualifications
Coaches who will participate in this course must have good knowledge and experience in hockey coaching in high performance and/or development. High Performance Coaching is the coaching of high level adult hockey players and preparing the teams at high level international competition. Development coaching is the coaching of young players (up to Under 21) in all countries and of adult players in countries where hockey is not yet well developed.
Applicants must hold the highest level of coaching certification in their own country to be eligible for the course.
Participants must also be able to transfer their new know-how to other coaches in their countries so that FIH can be sure that coaching standards can be improved by this ongoing effective learning and teaching process.
Participation Fee
The participation fee, to be paid in advance but after registration (in October), is 400.00 Euro. Included in the course cost is seven nights accommodation in double rooms, all meals from Monday, 5 December, at 6.30pm (dinner) to Monday, 12 December, (breakfast), entrance tickets to the men’s Sahara Hockey Champions Trophy the duration of the tournament, local transportation, refreshments during course hours and an official FIH certificate of participation. There will be some arrangements for the participants if they wish to extend their stay at an extra cost. There will be no reimbursement in case of withdrawal after 15 November, 2005.
Programme
The course programme will include:
· Welcome dinner and introductory meeting
· Lectures and practical coaching sessions, discussions, special presentations, contributions from participants
· Match analysis of the Sahara Hockey Champions Trophy
· Official closing dinner and presentation of certificates of participation
Note: All participants will receive the complete course programme after their final registration. They should bring their sports uniform and hockey sticks for practical sessions.

Selection
For the selection of participants, the FIH Development & Coaching Committee will look at the qualifications of the applicants, but will also ensure that as many countries as possible will have the opportunity to participate. FIH will send registration invitations to selected participants. Those applicants who are unsuccessful will also receive a reply.
National Associations should state their order of priority if submitting an application for more than one potential participant. They should also provide complete information about the qualifications and experience of each applicant.
