Richard Leman new GB Hockey President
23 Jan 2008 12:37

Great Britain Hockey Limited is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Leman as their new President.

Richard has been the England Hockey representative on the GB Board since 2004, and was very involved in the Great Britain Framework Agreement signed by England Hockey, and the Scottish and Welsh Hockey Unions in 2006.

A Non Executive Director of England Hockey since 2004, he is active in many aspects of the sport, in particular with the administration and development of East Grinstead Hockey Club.  He is currently the Chair of East Grinstead Sports Club, which is the charitable body that runs the multi-sport site at East Grinstead.

His hockey career highlights include a World Cup silver medal in 1986, an Olympic Bronze in Los Angeles 1984 and Olympic Gold in Seoul 1988.  Richard is also Great Britain Hockey’s representative on the British Olympic Associations National Olympic Committee, and a member of the BOA’s Executive Board.

Bryn Williams, who has been Acting President since Roger Self stepped down last year, commented: - “GB Hockey is privileged to have an Olympic Gold Medallist as our new President. Richard’s combination of commercial skills and hockey knowledge will reinforce the leadership of Great Britain Hockey. I look forward to working with Richard in my on-going role as an independent director”.

The appointment of Richard Leman as the new President was formally agreed at the Great Britain Hockey Board meeting on Saturday 19 January 2008, in Sheffield. As a consequence of this appointment, Richard will be stepping down from being a Non Executive Director of the England Hockey Board.
