Asian Games ready to start

Competition at the Asian Games will start in Doha, Qatar on Friday. The hockey tournament of this major sporting event in Asia will begin on Saturday 2 December, when three matches in the women’s competition are scheduled. The Asian Games is the first qualifying event for the 2008 Beijing Olympics as minimum two Olympic berths are at stake in both the men’s and women’s tournament.

In the men’s tournament, ten teams will fight for the title: Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Oman, Pakistan and Taipei. In the women’s event, seven teams are participating: China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and Taipei.

The interesting part of the Asian Games will be to see if the countries that had lots of success at the World Cups will continue their being at the top. Furthermore, the Asian Games will secure for the best teams a ticket to the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
