Kenya women’s team back in Olympic Qualifier 31 Mar 2008 06:16
The women’s hockey team of Kenya is back in the WorldHockey Olympic Qualifier in Baku, Azerbaijan. The President of the International Hockey Federation (FIH), Els van Breda Vriesman, was successful in achieving the support from the IOC’s Olympic Solidarity and the National Olympic Committee of Kenya and as a result the FIH has been informed that the Kenya women’s team is now able to participate in the Olympic Qualifier, to be played from 12 until 20 April 2008.
Earlier, the Kenya Hockey Union had to withdraw from the women’s WorldHockey Olympic Qualifier because of the recent political turmoil in its country resulting in insufficient financial means to enable its team to participate in this tournament.
‘We are extremely happy that Kenya is back in the event’, FIH President Els van Breda Vriesman stated. ‘I would like to thank IOC’s Olympic Solidarity and the National Olympic Committee of Kenya and its President Kip Keino for helping the women’s hockey team, their support and assistance.’
