Scotland in Setanta Sports Trophy
11 Jun 2007 07:52

A nearly full Scotland women’s squad head to Dublin to challenge four tough sides in televised Setanta Sports Trophy 13-17 June.

Head Coach Keith Joss said: ‘This is an important tournament in our preparations for the European Trophy in Lithuania, and all (non-injured) players were available for selection with the exception of Abi Walker who has work commitments.’

A fuller squad could make all the difference for the Scottish side which, with several key players missing, drew two and lost one in a friendly series against Ireland earlier this month.  Several players were required to complete strength and conditioning training that conflicted with the friendly match times.

The Setanta Sports Trophy will give Scotland a better platform to see the squad’s potential against more than just the Irish.  Other competing teams include Olympic Champions Germany and South Africa.

On facing Scotland in a competitive arena and other challengers, Ireland’s Coach Gene Muller said: ‘The Setanta Sports Trophy will be our toughest challenge this year and will give us a taste of tournament hockey in preparation for the EuroHockey Nations Championship.’

Matches will be held at The National Hockey Stadium, University College Dublin.
