Over 130 youth participated in the World Youth Hockey Day in Mexico organized by the Mexico City Hockey Association (AHDF). A total of 11 youth teams took part in this event: Mantarayas/Jaguares, Mantarayas/Delfines, Iztac A, Iztac B, Iztac girls team, Escorpiones, Castores, Colegio Real del Bosque girls team, Colegio Real del Bosque 2nd grade, Colegio Real del Bosque 3rd grade, and Xolotls.

The teams played round-robin (20-minute games) and there was no ranking. Sticks were given to every youth that participated in the event as a prize. The games showed good skill level and they were rather exciting!

The World Youth Hockey Day was a success in Mexico plus it gave "rebirth" to the Youth League in Mexico City and the metropolitan area which had stopped almost a year ago. The Youth Leage is planned to start next Saturday (November 2nd, 2002) with an approximate of 15 youth teams in two categories. The league will be used as a selective tournament for the Mexico City teams participating in the 2003 National Youth Olympiad.

Special thanks to Juan Olvera for the organization and running of the youth day, to all the coaches and umpires that made this event a success, and to the Mexico City Hockey Association for its support in the organization of the event.
