Role of the Athletes Commission
The FIH Athletes Commission exists to provide a link between international hockey players and the FIH Executive Board. The Athletes Commission advises and makes recommendations on matters of importance and relevance to hockey players.
Aims of the Athletes Commission:

Achieve a real contribution from current top athletes

Establish a functioning Athletes Commission in each CF and NA

Develop relationships with Athletes Commissions of other IFs

Appoint a hockey representative on the IOC Athletes Commission
Commission Members Mercedes Coghen - Chair Mercedes Coghen Mercedes captained the Spanish women’s team for eight years, including their gold medal triumph at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. Mercedes played 165 internationals for Spain before being elected onto the Spanish Olympic Committee in 1996.
Mercedes is a member of the FIH Executive Board and the FIH Events & Competition Committee. She is also the Chair of the Organising Committee for the women’s Samsung Hockey World Cup in Madrid, Spain, from 27 September-8 October, 2006.

Renita Garard – Deputy Chair
Renita Garard is one of the most decorated players in world hockey history, with two Olympic, two World Cup and three Champions Trophy gold medals. She was a member of the dominant Australian women’s team from 1994-2000 and played 184 international matches.
Renita is a member of the FIH Events & Competition Committee and the Hockey Australia Board of Directors. She is the current Chair of the HA Athletes Commission and Australian Hockey League Commission.
