Dilip Tirkey's skill, tenacity and tight marking as a defender have earned him the monicker 'The Rock' and a reputation as one of the most difficult players to beat in world hockey.

A highly experienced player who debuted against England back in 1995 in the Indira Gandhi Gold Cup, he has captained India and played abroad for clubs in the Netherlands (Klein Zwitserland) and Pakistan (Sindh Qalandars).

Born in the Indian hockey hotbed of Sundergarh, he is also a fearsome presence at penalty corners and was India's only inclusion in the 2007 FIH All-Star team. He was also the first captain to lift the Premier Hockey League trophy when his side, the Hyderabad Sultans won the inaugural title in 2005.
