As captain and the defensive heart of the Argentina women's hockey team, Magdalena Aicega has enjoyed an outstandingly successful and popular career and taken 'Las Leonas' to the highest levels of international sport.

She first made the national youth team as a 16-year-old and in 1994 was selected to the senior team which won silver at the 1994 World Cup in Dublin. She is a four-time winner of the Pan American Games champion, has gold medals from the 2001 Champions Trophy and 2002 World Cup tournaments and of course an Olympic silver medal from the Sydney 2000 Games and bronze from Athens.

She has studied nutrition and plays club hockey for the Belgrano Athletic Club in Buenos Aires, where she started as a seven-year-old. Away from hockey she likes to listen to music, spend time at home with her dogs and simply enjoy a nice siesta.
