Robert VAN DER HORST

Country:          Netherlands
Date of Birth:  17 October 1984
Gender:            Male
Position:          Defender

Just a year after debuting for the senior Dutch side in 2004, young defender Robert van der Horst was named FIH 'Young Player of the Year' having quickly established himself at the top level with his vision, great distribution skills and cool head under pressure.

He has won gold medals with the Dutch side at the 2006 Champions Trophy and 2007 European Championships and plays for the Oranje Zwart club in Eindhoven.

A marketing and communications student, he was high on the lists of football scouts as a youngster, but chose to play hockey instead of a potential career with Dutch football side PSV Eindhoven.

He names Rodrigo Garza, Tiger Woods and Ian Thorpe as his heroes.
