Striker Maike Stoekel was voted 2007 FIH 'Young Player of the Year' after shining in the 2007 Champions Trophy, where Germany finished third, and the 2007 European Championships which her team won.

She was part of the 2006 Champions Trophy winning German side and won silver in the 2004 edition in her major international tournament debut.

Born in Bielefeld, she studies medicine at university in Cologne and plays for the Rot-Weiss Köln in the same city.
