Egypt start preparations for World Cup Qualifier 23 Jan 2006 15:26
The Egyptian Hockey Federation has set its preparation agenda for the men’s BDO Hockey World Cup Qualifier, with the national team to play high intensity matches in the lead-up to Aprill’s tournament in Changzhou.
The agenda contains the following events:

Inviting the Belgium men team for a training camp in Cairo (EGY) from 21-29 January. The camp also includes five Test matches against the Eyptian team. The five test matches are to be played in Cairo International Stadium on the 22, 23, 25, 26 and 28 January at 18:00 each day

Inviting the Scottish men team to play three test matches in Cairo (EGY) from 24-27 February

Organising a four nations tournament to be played in Cairo (EGY) from the 25 February-2 March between Ireland, Italy, Poland and Egypt
Egypt 4 defeated Belgium 2 Egypt defeated Belgium 4-2 in the first of five Test matches in Cairo as both teams prepare for the World Cup Qualifier.
The match was a great spectacle which demonstrated the technical and tactical development of both teams.
Egypt scored its first goal in the 7th minute by Sameh Metwally through a penalty corner before Mahmoud El Gendy doubled their lead in the 40th minute.
With the match under control, Egypt added their third goal by through Mahmoud El Hady in the 53th minute to lead 3-0, before Belgium stepped up their play to bring the score to 3-1 two minutes later after Jerome Truyens’ goal.
Belgium continued to push forward and drew to within one soon after (57th minute) as Philippe Goldberg knocked in pass to reduce the deficit to 3-2.
However Karim secured the victory for Egypt in the 62nd minute with a field goal to give the home team a positive result in the first of five matches.
