Day 1 of the BDO Junior World Cup already started with a major upset when India defeated tournament favorite Australia (3-2) in Pool D in Boston, USA. In other first day action, New Zealand surprisingly defeated Netherlands 3-1.

Australia, with already many experienced players in its squad, is one of the tournament favorites at the BDO Junior World Cup. On the first day of play, India proved to be stronger thanks to a last minute goal of Devi Asem.

“It was a very nervous start to the Junior World Cup and although we were able to create plenty of opportunities, we failed to convert,” Australian coach Katrina Powell stated.

New Zealand was responsible for another upset, defeating Netherlands 3-1. Defending champion Korea nailed Chile 6-1, while host USA started the BDO Junior World Cup with a 3-1 victory over Belarus.

All action from Boston can be followed ‘live’ through the special micro site of the FIH. Please click here for direct access to the BDO Junior World Cup website.
