Hockeyroos 1 Spain 0 (1-0 half time)
Goals – Johnson 24m FG

The Hockeyroos have commenced their tour of Spain and Argentina with a solid 1-0 victory over Spain in Terrassa this morning.

Having only arrived in Spain 28 hours earlier, the match was somewhat sloppy however a field goal from Fiona Johnson in the 24th minute gave the Hockeyroos the lead they deserved.

Despite having many more circle penetrations and shots on goal in the first half, the Hockeyroos were unable to advance their lead.

This trend continued after half time with the Hockeyroos generating 14 circle penetrations. However the Spanish defence held firm, with the score remaining 1-0 at full time.

Stacia Joseph, Madonna Blyth and Ashleigh Nelson were amongst the best players, with coach Frank Murray pleased to come away with the win.

“It was a tough, hard game against a determined and disciplined team. We were fortunate to score in the first half with a deflection from Fiona Johnson,” said Murray.

The two teams will meet again on Friday 2 October.
