Hockeyroos claim series despite draw
05 Oct 2022 13:11

Spain have forced a two all draw against the Hockeyroos overnight in the final match of the three test series in Terrassa, Spain.

While the Hockeyroos have claimed the series having won the first two matches in convining style, an improved Spanish performance in the final match denied the Hockeyroos a clean sweep.

Striker Ashleigh Nelson followed up her two goal effort in the second game of the series with the Hockeyroos first goal of the match at the 12 minute mark. However when Spain also converted a goal at the 12 minute mark, their first goal of the series, the Hockeyroos knew they had a match on their hands.

After an even first half, the Hockeyroos gained the lead at the 55 minute mark when defender Teneal Attard converted another penalty corner goal.

However when Spain scored their second goal of the match with nine minutes remaining, the game was once again tied up, with the score remaining that way until full time.

Captain Madonna Blyth was once again one of the Hockeyroos best performed players, while Ashleigh Nelson, Sarah O’Connor and Georgia Nanscawen also contributed well.

The Hockeyroos will now head to Argentina where they will play the host nation in a five test series beginning from Saturday 10 October.

“We must regroup and find another goal scorer to provide support for our leading goal scorer, Ashleigh Nelson,” said Murray.
