FIH releases dates of 2008 Samsung Champions Trophy women

The Executive Board of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) entrusted the 2008 Samsung Champions Trophy women to Germany during its meeting in March. After close consultation with all parties involved, the FIH and the German Hockey Federation (DHB) now confirmed the dates for this event. The 2008 Samsung Champions Trophy women will take place from 17 until 25 May 2008 in the Warsteiner HockeyPark Monchengladbach, the stadium of the 2006 BDO World Cup men.

The dates for the 2008 Samsung Champions Trophy (17-25 May 2008) are well scheduled in ‘The Road to Beijing’ of the six participating teams The 2008 Olympic Games hockey competition will take place in Beijing, China from 10 until 23 August 2008.

Now that China won the 2007 AtaHolding Champions Challenge, the six teams that will be invited for the 2008 Samsung Champions Trophy women are known. Defending Champion and 2006 World Cup winner Netherlands, Argentina, host and Olympic Champion Germany, Australia Japan and China have qualified for the tournament in Monchengladbach.

With the major success of the BDO World Cup men in Monchengladbach in September 2006, the FIH is sure that the 2008 Samsung Champions Trophy women will be an excellent tournament again. It is the first time that a major women’s event will take place in the ‘Home of German Hockey’: the Warsteiner HockeyPark. Germany is the organizer of the women’s Champions Trophy for the fourth time in the history of hockey.
