South Africa surprises Australia in first test match

The South African women’s team surprised in the opening clash of the 3 match test series against Australia. South Africa defeated the Hockeyroos 2-1 in the match played at the Randburg Hockey Stadium.

Australia opened the score when Emily Halliday put the 0-1 on the scoreboard after 6 minutes. South Africa played a great second half. Goals of Taryn Hoskins (33rd min) and Sharne Bailey (63rd min) gave the South Africans the victory. South African goal keeper Mariette Rix was voted as player of the match.

South Africa and Australia will meet each other again on Friday and Saturday.
