Great come-back for Great Britain
29 Jul 2008 14:38

Great Britain men overturned a 1-0 deficit to beat New Zealand in the first of two training matches against the Blacksticks.

Ben Collier put the Kiwis up within 6 minutes and Britain were unable to take advantage of any of their chances leaving the score 1-0 at half-time.

Ashley Jackson evened the score just after half time with a penalty corner and Scot Niall Stott netted the winner with a straight strike from the middle of the D in the last minute of the game.

Head Coach Jason Lee said “We did quite well in the second half despite an appalling first half, but of course, the result counts for nothing.  We took the first 35 minutes to get used to the conditions.  This is our first match here and playing is a much different situation to training.”

New Zealand – Great Britain 1-2 (1-0)
1-0   Ben Collier 6 (F), 1-1 Ashley Jackson 37 (PC), 1-2 Niall Stott 69 (F).
