Belgium completed a series win over Egypt with a 3-2 victory in the final Test in Cairo on Saturday.
The victory gave Belgium a 3-1 series result and a boost in confidence ahead of April’s BDO Hockey World Cup Qualifier in China.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 18th minute with Maxime Luycx converting a penalty corner after a period on controlled play by Belgium.
That lead was doubled in the 30th minute with Belgium’s strong work rewardedwith Fabrice Bourdeaud’hui scoring for a 2-0 lead.
Egypt pegged back the Belgium lead just before half time with Sameh Metwaly’s penalty corner finding the back of the net.
After half time, Belgium again broke away from their opponent with Charles Vandeweghe capitalising in the 45th minute.
The tempo of the match rose midway through the second half as Egypt strived to get back into the match. Their perseverance was finally rewarded with Hassan Fakih on hand to draw the home team to within one goal as the match entered the final 10 minutes.
However Egypt couldn’t find the equaliser and Belgium completed their win win in the five-match series.
"I am very happy with our preparations out here. We are achieving the goals that we are setting for ourselves. I'm very happy with the good performance from my team, which will also increase in the coming period when our five players return from abroad.” Norbert Nederlof said.
