Hockeyroos escape close call
18 Feb 2008 07:32

The Australian women have escaped a close call from a far more determined Great Britain line up to further extend their lead in the five test series. The Hockeyroos won the second match 2-1 against the British formation.

Eager the make amends for their previous performance against the Hockeyroos on Thursday night, Great Britain were on the front foot in the first half.

Although neither team was able to score prior to half time, the game was played at a competitive rate with Great Britain not allowing the Hockeyroos any room to move up forward.

The pressure applied by Great Britain resulted in a fairly aggressive match up at times, with neither team able to break through and gain control of the match.

The second half saw extended periods controlled by both teams, with Great Britain dominating early on to score the first goal of the game at the 40 minute mark.

Great Britain continued to control the tempo for the majority of the second half, but with their home crowd behind them the Hockeyroos lifted.

Determined to get on the score board, the Hockeyroos threw everything at the Great Britain defense and eventually climbed their way on the score board after an impressive attack from Kate Hollywood managed to draw the goal keeper which allowed Hope Munro to find the equalizer the Hockeyroos were desperately looking for.

Munro scored again only minutes later in the dying stages of the match to seal the match for the Hockeyroos.

The next leg of the five test series will continue in Queensland from Thursday 21 February.
